Manor, a fifty-suite seniors citizen's apartment block, jointly financed
by the Regina Apostolic Church, the Provincial Government of Saskatchewan,
and the Government of Canada was officially opened Saturday, June
19, 1982.
The
building contains nine two-bedroom and forty-one one-bedroom self-contained
suites designed for senior citizens who are still able to care for
themselves. In the days of high rental costs this apartment block
subsidized by government levels, makes good accommodation available
at affordable rates to senior citizens. The building was built at
a cost of $2,352,927.00. It was the dream of Pastor Merv Switzer
and the Board of Directors of the Regina Apostolic Church.
The
building is solely owned by a non-profit organization known as Storie
Manor Incorporated, which was formed for the sole purpose of building
this project. The land for Storie Manor was supplied as a donation
by the Regina Apostolic Church.

Storie
Manor is named after Rev. E.W. Storie, who founded the Apostolic Church
of Regina in 1924. Shortly after his coming to the city, the old site
of the Apostolic Mission was purchased and services were held there
until 1979, when that land was purchased for the development of the
new Cornwall Centre, at which time a new church was built in University
Park.
A
caption, "Serving Seniors", expresses the purpose behind
building such an apartment. The Apostolic Church and the two governments
are able to supply housing at reasonable costs to our seniors who
have given so much of themselves to develop our country, our province,
and our community.
